Spagyric plant extracts originated in ancient alchemy, separating the three basic principles of a plant, then reuniting them and transmuting it to a more potent form than the original plant. Within alchemy this was considered a more spiritual and holistic way of creating plant medicines. As the spagyric method brings together and reunites the three basic principles of the plant; oils, alcohol or the tincture and mineral salts.
This extract also undergoes a fermentation where yeast is added to the plant and water and the extract is allowed to ferment in a cool, dark space. Once fermentation ceases, the extract is connected to a Soxhlet apparatus, where steam is passed through the liquid that is send through a condenser; which allows the extract to condense into a water and alcohol solution. Once this distillation is complete, the plant material is removed and incinerated and added back into the extract.
